Our Story

Zanzibar Metropolitan College (ZMC) was founded in 2010 with a vision to transform higher education in Zanzibar and beyond.

Established as a premier institution, ZMC has grown from a small college with just two programs to a comprehensive institution offering diverse academic programs in health sciences, technology, and business. Our journey has been marked by a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement.

Over the years, we have graduated thousands of students who have gone on to make significant contributions in their respective fields, both locally and internationally. Our alumni network is a testament to the quality education we provide.

Our History

2010

Zanzibar Metropolitan College was founded with initial programs in Clinical Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

2012

First graduation ceremony held with 45 students receiving diplomas. Expanded to include Nursing program.

2015

Moved to current campus location with expanded facilities. Introduced Business and Technology programs.

2018

Accredited by the Zanzibar Ministry of Education. Student population surpassed 1,000.

2020

Launched digital learning initiatives in response to global pandemic. Established partnerships with 5 international universities.

2023

Celebrated 10,000th graduate. Opened new research center for health sciences.
